Program version at 11:41:04 HEADLINE:Rubik's Cube fans face off in Budapest CAPTION: The Rubik's Cube has baffled many, but for some nimble fingered people, the puzzle is easy to solve. Some of the world's best players recently competed in the fourth Rubik's Cube world championship. (Oct. 9) [Notes:ANCHOR VOICE] NB. This is a voiceover transcript, not a full shotlist: More than 250 competitors from 33 countries recently took part in the fourth Rubik's Cube World Championship in Budapest. They did it with their feet. They did it with their hands. Some did it blindfolded. And they all did it very, very quickly. [Notes:SOT: Tyson Mao, US competitor] "JUST LOOKING AT THE TIMES THAT THESE PEOPLE ARE DOING, THESE ARE THINGS THAT WE THOUGHT WERE IMPOSSIBLE JUST TWO YEARS AGO. AND WE THINK, I GUESS WE'VE BEEN HUMBLED IN A SENSE, WE'RE NOT SO QUICK TO SAY THAT IT'S NOT GOING TO GET TWO SECONDS FASTER TWO YEARS FROM NOW." The blur of colors amazed viewers as competitors showed off their skills. And according to the U.K.'s Dan Harris, there was no shortage of talent at the event. [Notes:SOT: Dan Harris, UK competitor] "ANYBODY CAN SOLVE THE CUBE, FULL STOP. I LEARNT WITHIN A WEEKEND AND LEARNING THE BEGINNER METHOD IS POSSIBLE FOR ANYONE WITH A LITTLE BIT A PATIENCE, A LITTLE BIT OF SPARE TIME TO LEARN TO SOLVE THE CUBE. BUT TO SOLVE IT TO THE STANDARD OF THESE GUYS, WELL THAT TAKES SOME SPECIAL PEOPLE, I THINK." While the world record of 9.86 seconds was not broken at the competition. Andrew Kang of the United States set the best time for a single attempt at 10.88 seconds. Yu Nakajima of Japan won the main event with an average time of 12.46 seconds over five attempts.
